New Lifts for the coming winter in Niseko hopefully more in the future...
In the last few years Niseko has seen some major property developments. More beds mean more people and more people means more crowds. And over the last few years the over-crowding at the base areas has been immense. Especially at peak times around the base of the Center 4 Quad, Hirafu Gondola, Family Chair.
The last couple of winters the resorts have slowly decided that it was time to build some new lifts to increase the capacity of movement of skiers and snowboarders up the hill. 2016/17 season saw the opening of the updated King 3 from Triple to a 'high-speed' quad in Hirafu. Niseko Village expanded it's beginner terrain with the addition of 2 new lifts at the base.
This winter sees the addition of a beginner chair added to the base of Annupuri called the 'Dream #1 Quad' a fixed grip that will enhance the beginner experience in Annupuri, which has been limited in the past. Read More Here.
Hirafu has finally committed to replacing the Family pair chair and it currently underway, replacing the lift entirely with a 'high speed' quad chair and moving the top station up above the base of the Center 4 Quad and Ace Pair 1 Chairs. Increasing the width of the run and length. Read More Here
Now this news hasn't pleased all corners, some say the resorts haven't spent enough on the upper mountain or opened up new terrain to cater to an even spread of the market not just focusing on beginners, however it is a welcome news as these areas have been also neglected for a long time. Hopefully with recent developments down low will lead to more up high over the coming years.
Hokkaido Mountain Experience's view is we welcome the change and are looking forward to more in the future.
